Supporting 1,000 Flooded Families in Feni Area!

When disaster strikes, numbers alone cannot express the depth of human suffering. Behind every statistic is a family struggling to survive, a livelihood washed away, and a future suddenly uncertain. During the recent floods in Feni district, I had the opportunity to work on the ground with Ignite Global Foundation to support communities affected by one of the most severe natural disasters in the region.

The flooding was caused by continuous heavy rainfall and a sudden surge of water from upstream areas. Large parts of Feni Sadar, Chhagalnaiya, Daganbhuiyan, Fulgazi, and Parshuram were submerged, disrupting daily life and destroying sources of income. According to official estimates, the overall damage amounted to Tk146.43 crore, impacting agriculture, fisheries, livestock, and critical infrastructure.

Agriculture suffered devastating losses as more than 5,564 hectares of cropland were damaged, affecting nearly 28,835 farmers. Seedbeds, vegetable fields, and stored produce were swept away, leaving farming families facing immediate food insecurity and long-term financial hardship. Many farmers shared that repeated flooding has made recovery increasingly difficult, pushing them closer to poverty each year.

The fisheries sector also faced heavy losses, with over 276 metric tonnes of fish washed away from thousands of ponds and water bodies. For many families, fish farming was the only source of income, and losing everything in a matter of hours left them with no clear path to recovery. Livestock losses further worsened the situation, as poultry, cattle, goats, and essential animal feed were destroyed by floodwaters.

Beyond livelihoods, infrastructure damage intensified the crisis. Dozens of embankment breaches occurred across multiple upazilas, allowing floodwater to spread rapidly. Roads, homes, and public facilities were damaged, forcing families into temporary shelters. Even after water levels began to recede, hundreds of people remained displaced, highlighting the long-lasting effects of the disaster.

Amid this crisis, I worked alongside Ignite Global Foundation in collecting, organizing, and distributing emergency food supplies. Our focus was simple but urgent to ensure that affected families received food support at a time when cooking facilities, income sources, and local markets were severely disrupted. The relief operation successfully extended support to 1,000 families, offering immediate assistance and a sense of solidarity during an incredibly difficult time.  Click to watch How to collect the fresh water for affected people!

The moments captured in the images reflect the collective effort behind this mission. From preparing relief packages to overseeing their transportation, every step required coordination, physical effort, and teamwork. Each package symbolized more than food. It represented care, dignity, and the message that these communities were not alone.

This experience went far beyond a co-curricular activity. It was a powerful reminder that meaningful impact comes from action, presence, and empathy. Working directly with affected communities reshaped my understanding of responsibility and reinforced the importance of standing beside people in their most vulnerable moments.

The people of Feni have shown remarkable resilience despite repeated disasters. However, sustainable solutions such as stronger embankments, improved flood management, and long-term recovery planning are essential to prevent such crises from repeating year after year. Until those solutions are realized, collective action and community-driven support remain critical.

I am grateful to Ignite Global Foundation and every volunteer involved for their commitment and tireless effort. This experience has strengthened my resolve to continue contributing to humanitarian initiatives and to use my skills, time, and voice to support communities in need.

In times of crisis, compassion is not optional. Standing together is how recovery begins.
